Former teenaged ski champion Jannik Sinner found himself in alpine VIP company at the weekend after a session on the slopes with Lindsay Vonn.
The three-time Olympic medalist and Italy’s world No. 12 who is resting an injury got in a few pre-season runs.
Sinner was tipped as a future World Cup alpine contender as a youngster, but ended up choosing tennis.
The player born in the German-speaking part of the Italian Alps near Austria can be counted as a big ski fan along with recently retired Roger Federer, who will now be able to return to the slopes for recreation after ending his career last month at age 41.
Vonn has long been a huge Federer fan and attended several Grand Slam finals featuring the Swiss.
The 21-year-old Sinner was more than impressed as he skied with Vonn on the snow in a meeting arranged by joint sponsor Rolex – also aligned with Federer.
Sinner posted his thoughts on Twitter: “Hosting Lindsey and skiing near my hometown is something I will remember for a long time.
“It’s hard to put into words how special it was for me to spend the day and ski with one of the best to do it (ski).”
Sinner remains in the chase for a spot at the eight-man ATP Finals to be staged 500 kms from his home village of San Candido.
