Murray springs back to life with Dubai wild card

Andy Murray will join the ATP elite in Dubai this month after accepting a wildcard, the event announced on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old Scot who won the 2017 title in the emirate and played the final 11 years ago against Roger Federer, will make the event his return to the courts after going out in the Australian Open third round.

No. 61 Murray joins fellow Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic in the field in the Gulf; he also took a wild card here a year ago, winning a round before going down to Jannik Sinner.

“Coming back to Dubai brings with it a lot of good memories, not least 2017 and the final with Fernando,” Murray said in a statement.

“My form is improving and my game is getting better, so Dubai provides another great opportunity for me to continue to climb back up the rankings.”

Joining Murray and Djokovic at the Aviation Club venue will be holder Andrey Rublev, 2021 US Open winner Daniil Medvedev, Olympic Gold medalist Alexander Zverev, and World No.7 Felix Auger-Aliassime.
