Zverev heads to Germany to heal damaged ankle

Alexander Zverev on Monday revealed details of the horror ankle injury he suffered during his Saturday semi-final against Rafael Nadal which ended his Roland Garros for 2022.

The German was helped off court after badly rolling his right ankle and returned on crutches a few minutes later to concede the match.

Zverev told fans on social media that he is heading to his birth land to treat what he said were several ligament tears.

“I will be flying to Germany on Monday to make further examinations and to determine the best and quickest way for me to recover.

“Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot.”

The ATP No. 3 added: “I want to thank everyone all over the world for the kind messages that I have received since yesterday. Your support means a lot to me right now!

“I will try to keep you updated as much as possible on further developments. See you next time, Roland Garros.”
