USTA gives ATP options for New York event

The USTA has presented a series of working options to players via an ATP conference call this week.

Newly appointed US Open Tournament Director Stacey Allaster presented three options to the online conference:

  1. The US Open and the Masters 1000 to be played at Flushing Meadows, but the qualifying tournament would be cancelled and the doubles draw dramatically downsized to 24 pairs.
  2. Cancelling the Cincinnati 1000 event bout with the US Open keeping the qualifying draw and with a full-size doubles event.
  3. The cancellation of both Cincinnati and the US Open.

Prize money would be maintained at 95% of 2019 levels. The cancellation of Cincinnati would see a $2 million saving for the USTA.

All players and their permitted support staff would be housed at the TWA Hotel, near Terminal 5 at JFK Airport.

Each player would be allowed up to two support staff, providing they share a room at the designated hotel.

Players are now evaluating the options and are expected to inform the USTA of their preferred options within days.

A final decision on the event is expected by June 15.
