Unstoppable Swiatek claims eighth title of 2022

Iga Swiatek cemented her reputation as the dominiator of the 20220 season as a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 defeat of Donna Vekic in San Diego handed the Pole an eighth WTA title this season.

The world No. 1 stands 24-1 in matches played in the US this season and is seven months into her reign atop to WTA rankings.

She defeated Croat Vekic for a third time, notching her 64th match win of 2022, the most since Serena Williams won 78 in 2013.

.“It was a really tight match. I think both of us, physically, we felt the intensity,” the winner said. 

“At the end, I wanted to really be the one who was going to play the last ball in. It happened a few times, and that gave me a lot of confidence.”
