Tstitsipas wins back to back Monte Carlo titles

Stefanos Tsitsipas won  back-to-back Monte Carlo Masters titles  with 6-3 7-6(3) win over first-time ATP Tour finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.

This was the Greek’s first title of the 2022 season.

It was also the world No.5’s  second Masters 1000 title which will boost his hopes of  improving  on his runner-up finish at last year’s French Open and perhaps claim a first  grand slam title this year.

Davidovich Fokina, who beat  both top-ranked Novak Djokovic and Indian Wells champion Taylor Fritz in the early rounds at Monaco was first to break serve  and take an early  2-1 lead.

But the world No.46 Spaniard forfeited his serve in the next game and Tsitsipas took control of the contest to go a set up in just  31 minutes with a near perfect  display on Court Rainier III.

Tsitsipas said in his postmatch courtside interview. “Remarkable. I’m very proud of myself. Things didn’t seem to be going well at some points but I managed to stay well-composed and kept believing that I can finish this off,”

“I’m proud of the belief I put into my game… Sometimes you doubt yourself but it’s always important to keep your head high.

“He was a difficult opponent. He fought in moments I didn’t really expect him to. He hits incredible winners out of nowhere and played extremely unpredictable, but I was able to minimise that today… I believe this is a great win against him.”
