Stefanos Tsitsipas came back from 5-3 down in the first set to eventually see off the challenge of Serbia’s Laslo Djere 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4) in Acapulco on Tuesday night.
It was the Greek’s 200th tour win, but he was made to fight all the way.
Tsitsipas saved two set points in the first set at 5-4, 40/30 on Djere’s serve and then at 6/7 in the tie-break, before going o0n to win an equally tight second set to advance in two hours and 15 minutes.
He will next face J.J. Wolf after the American qualifier saved a match point en route to a 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-2 win over Lorenzo Sonego.
