Tiriac may step up to bail out ex-con Boris

With Boris Becker reportedly only days away from early release from a London-area prison, tabloid reports indicate former manager Ion Tiriac may come to the rescue of his one-time protege.

Romanian tennis billionaire Tiriac managed Becker when the German won the first of his three Wimbledon titles at age 17 in 1985.

With Becker due to be deported from Britain under a scheme for foreign criminals, Tiriac is said to be ready to help the 55-year-old back on his financial feet after serving less than a year on fraudulent bankruptcy charges.

London’s Sun reported that Becker’s return to Germany is expected before Christmas, with the six-time Grand Slam champion and BBC Wimbledon commentator currently being housed in a prison unit designated for soon-to-be deportees.

The Sun quoted a source on the Tiriac report: “He wrote Boris a very touching letter shortly after he was jailed telling him to keep his head up.

“They remain very close friends and if Ion can support him he will. Boris will need all the help he can get.”

The tabloid also quoted a “pal” of Becker’s 87-year-old mother Elivera saying that the return of her son would be ” the best Christmas present I could hope for.”

Becker has reportedly done a deal from the inside with a Munich TV network which is expected to fly the former champion home on a private jet as soon as he is released prior to gaining an exclusive interview detailing his eight months behind bars in Britain.
