The Austrian thrashed Daniil Medvedev in Sunday’s Barcelona Open final following his earlier demolition job on Rafael Nadal in the semis just three weeks ahead of the French Open.
Thiem remains in fifth place in the rankings but is closing in on Roger Federer in fourth. Novak Djokovic leads the rankings from Nadal and third placed Alexander Zverev.
South African Kevin Anderson is still 6th but that could change as he recently announced he was not going to play the clay season, after struggling with an elbow injury.
He is and hoping to be 100 per cent for the grass in June.
Japan’s Kei Nishikori, who lost in the semi-final in Barcelona, stays 7th, just ahead of Juan Martin del Potro and John Isner, and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The Greek will try to use the Estoril event to reclaim lost ground after a disappointing Barcelona.
Basilashvili and Gael Monfils have jumped ahead of Marco Cecchinato, who withdrew from the Budapest event, where he won last year.
Felix Auger-Aliassime has moved into the top 30 and Budapest champion Matteo Berrettini is in the top-40 for the first time.
