Swiatek sweeps into Dubai semis on walkover

Iga Swiatek’s run of fortune took another positive turn on Wednesday when the top seed advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA Dubai tournament when Thursday opponent Karolina Pliskova withdrew the day before their match.

Swiatek, the Tour’s top-ranked player has been a buzzsaw this week, mowing down opponents in the emirate.

She powered ito the quarters with the loss of just one game against Liudmila Samsonova a few hours before learning of her free ride to the semis.  

Pliskova had defeated Anhelina Kalinina 7-5, 6-7 (6), 6-2 earlier.

Swiatek will await a semi-final opponent as Americans Coco Gauff and Madison Keys clash.
