Argentine Diego Schwartzman got into a heated verbal dispute with a former coach of Dominic Thiem at the Vienna Open on Friday, shouting at the coach between games.
Schwartzman beat Frenchman Gael Monfils 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-2, but tempers flared as coach Gunther Bresnik was accused of constantly staring at Schwartzman and jeering him during the match.
Bresnik is currently Monfils’ coach.
“He is so stupid. He doesn’t stop looking at me,” Schwartzman shouted.
Bresnik responded: “Why are you talking to me?”
After the match Schwartzman explained: “I have confidence with Bresnik so I asked him why he is clapping me and saying ‘bravo’ to my face. I don’t want a discussion.”
