Sonego too good for Zeppieri in Sardinia

Fifth seed Lorenzo Sonego beat 18-year-old Giulio Zeppieri 6-2 7-6 (7-4) at the Sardinia Open to secure a second round match-up with Jiri Vesely.

Sonego reached the fourth round at Roland Garros after his 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 7-6 (19-17) win over American Taylor Fritz in the longest tie-break in the Grand Slam’s history.

Marco Cecchinato came back from one set down to this year’s Rio de Janeiro finalist Gianluca Mager 5-7 7-6 (9-7) 6-2. Cecchinato will face number 7 seed Tommy Paul. Federico Delbonis beat Andreas Seppi 7-5 7-6 (8-6).

Delbonis will face Pablo Andujar, who and rallied from 1-3 down in the second set to beat Slovakian qualifier Jozef Kovalik 7-5 7-5.

Roberto Carballes Baena beat Argentine qualifier Federico Coria 7-5 6-4 and he will face Fabio Fognini next.
