Unseasonable wet weather in the run-up to the Miami Masters has cramped the preparation of Jannik Sinner as the weekend Indian Wells champion prepares to start the second leg of the”sunshine Double.”
The Italian and his team arrived from California this week only to find practice time curtailed by the poor weather.
Sinner will be trying to complete the hardcourt title one-two in the US at the last event before the start of European spring clay in a fortnight.
“We will see how it turns out,” the 24-year-old said on Wednesday. “I had a great tournament at Indian Wells – now I have to see if the weather allows some practice.”
Sinner is playing Miami for the first time since 2024 when he won the title; he played the Florida final a year earlier, losing to Daniil Medvedev.
“I’m feeling good,” he said despite barely being able to find time to hit the court. “That is the most important thing.
“I didn’t really move (in a first training session). But I was feeling the ball well.
“The humidity here is the opposite of (desert) Indian Wells, where it was really hot (30s C). But we know the weather can change.
“The most important thing is to prepare in the best possible way. That is the only thing I can control.
“There are a lot of tough challenges ahead of me – hopefully I will be ready.”
