Showboat Kyrgios granted Cincinnati wild card

Flamboyant Wimbledon finalist NIck Kyrgios will return to the Cincinnati Masters for the first time in three years after being awarded a wild card entry on Monday.

The Australian ranked 45th is just outside the ranking cutoff for the event which begins on August 14.

The 27-year-old with six ATP career titles last competed at the Midwest venue in 2019, his sixth appearance.

He suffered a meltdown on court at the 2016 edition, smashing three racquets in succession after losing the first set in his second-round match with Borna Coric.

In 2017, Kyrgios upset top seed Rafael Nadal in the Cincy quarter-finals before losing the final to Grigor Dimitrov.
