Sabalenka upbeat despite covid quarantine

Aryna Sabalenka is optimistic about her chances of making the WTA Finals in Guadalajara next month despite currently living in quarantine due to a positive covid test.

Sabalenka hosted a Q&A on her instagram account, playing down her current predicament saying she was “not looking beautiful while sick.”

The world No.2 was forced to withdraw from this week’s Indian Wells Open because of the test.

“I want to play, I want to play tournaments. I’m tired of practicing or doing nothing. I need to go outside and play,” she said.

“Why couldn’t they just isolate me from other players and let me play? I could keep my distance and stay away from everyone …

“… but I guess it wouldn’t work well because we’d still be touching the same balls, and that could be dangerous.”

Sabalenka was previously unvaccinated, but said she may attempt to get vaccinated at the end of the season.
