Rybakina blows into Miami quarters

Last year’s finalist Elena Rybakina toughed out gusty conditions on Monday to reach the last eight of the Miami Masters with a 6-3, 7-5 defeat of Madison Keys.

The fourth-seeded Kazakh winner who claimed a Wimbledon title two years ago, will square off for the semis against tournament No. 8 Maria Sakkari, who advanced with a walkover as Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinskaya pulled out with a right thigh problem.

“I was really looking forward to playing today,” last month’s Dubai finalist Kalinskaya said in a statement.  “But unfortunately, my health doesn’t allow me.”

Sakkari reached the semi-finals here three years ago, defeating Naomi Osaka along the way before going out to Bianca Andreescu.
