Resurgent COVID stalking Wimbledon locker room

Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut dropped out of Wimbledon on Thursday with another case of locker room COVID.

The 17th seed follows on from 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini and former finalist Marin Cilic as a victim of the virus which appears to be on the rise again.

RBA confirmed his absence on social media, adding that he is experiencing only mild symptoms.

COVID symptoms appear to be more widespread than reported, with French player Alize Cornet reporting as early as Roland Garros that players were coming down with the latest iteration of the pandemic virus.

She later walked back her comments amid word that Wimbledon officials are studying a loophole in the rules which do not require players who test positive to actually withdraw from their matches.
