Qualifier Cazaux stuns 8th seed Rune

21 year old Frenchman Artur Cazaux stunned eighth seed Holger Rune in  3 hours 22 minutes winning 7-6(4) 6-4, 4-6,6-3 on Margaret Court Arena to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

Ranked 122 this was the biggest win of his career.

Rune came into this match chasing his 100th tour-level win.

His French wild card opponent owning just two, the second of which was his five-set victory over Laslo Djere in his Melbourne first round match.

“It was a crazy match. My voice is a bit tired now, but it was a big fight. Holger is a wonderful player. I have known him for a long time. I knew it was going to be a big fight and I was ready. I am so ready and that was crazy. Tennis is a show. I gave all I have in me. I hope you enjoyed the show. We have the crowd in France, but the Aussie crowd is crazy”, said Cazaux. 

He next meets Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, who beat  Cazaux’s compatriot Arthur Fils.
