Open injury fear as Djoko cuts practice short

Novak Djokovic failed to front up for the second half of a Friday US Open training session with Holger Rune, with fears surfacing that the Serb might have picked up an injury.

The Olympic champion who comes to the final major of the season without a summer hardcourt match,  kept his Danish sparring partner waiting for half an hour at Flushing Meadows in front of thousands of fans eager to watch the hit-out on a minor showcourt.

But once the 20-year-old Rune got the no-show word, he switched to a smaller court with a fresh partner.

Denmark’s TV2 said Djokovic picked up a physical issue while hitting for an hour with Rune on a smaller court before the pair were due to transfer to a bigger venue for fans.Djokovic is defending his 2023 title here and is due to start in the first round against Radu Albot.
