Norrie wins battle of Brits in San Diego

Cam Norrie won the Battle of the Brits in San Diego on Thursday, beating Dan Evans 7-6 (3), 6-3 to reach his ninth career quarter-final.

But it wasn’t all plain sailing for Norrie, who found himself 5-2 down in the first set, coming back to edge Evans in a tiebreak.

Norrie, currently ranked no. 28, then fought out a tight second set before breaking his opponent to book a quarter-final spot against Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who beat or American Taylor Fritz.
