Kyrgios to Netflix: I considered killing myself

Nick Kyrgios had admitted he considered suicide in 2019 after a second-round loss at Wimbledon, France’s L’Equipe reported on Wednesday.

The No. 25 who once reached 13th in the world and finished runner-up at the All England Club to Novak Djokovic last summer, made the bombshell revelation to Netflix, which is filming the second season of the Break Point tennis reality series.

“I was actually thinking about killing myself ,” The Australian newspaper quoted him as saying.

“I drank alcohol, I took drugs, I distanced myself from my family and my loved ones.”

He admitted he entered an unnamed psychiatric hospital as he considered suicide, according to the series which will be later this month.

“I lost at Wimbledon (to Rafael Nadal), and when I woke up, my father was crying, sitting on my bed. That was the trigger,

“I said to myself: “Ok, I can’t go on like this. I ended up in a psychiatric ward in London to sort out my problems.”

The player who played his first match in seven months on Tuesday after knee surgery – losing at Stuttgart – said he wore a sleeve on his right arm in the summer of 2019 to hide scars from self-harm.

Kyrgios is due to play next week in Halle, Germany, where he reached the semi-finals in 2022.

“You could tell I was hurting. My whole arm was covered in scars – that’s why I actually got my arm sleeve to cover it all. I was genuinely contemplating if I wanted to commit suicide.”
