Keys locks down AO follow-up win at IW

Madison Keys returned to the court nearly six weeks after winning the Australian Open, with the fifth-ranked American hammering Anastasia Potapova 6-3, 6-0 on Saturday.

The win on International Women’s Day at the Indian Wells Masters took just 64 minutes for world No. 5 Keys.

The American newlywed  was pleased to be playing at home after not playing for the entire month of February.

Victory into the third round was the 13th match win in a row for Keys, who started her season with the Adelaide title and is competing at the Californian desert venue for the 12th time.

Her best at the venue was the 2022 quarters.

“She’s a tough opponent who’s such a hard ball striker,” Keys said of Potapova, whom she also beat six years ago in Melbourne. “I tried to keep the ball away from her and I think I did a pretty good job.

“I’m happy to be able to play another match here at home.”
