Kazakh Bublik erupts in Laver Cup boilover

Kazakh Alexander Bublik is steaming over a perceived Anglo-American bias in selecting rest of the World teams for the annual Laver Cup.

The ATP No. 32 with three 250-level career titles, said that the side which has beaten all-star Europe at the last two editions of the Roger Federer-founded team autumn event should be more geographically well-rounded.

American have made up at least half of the six-man field at six previous editions of the tournament, with Aussies and Canadians – along with the occasional token South American – filling out the field.

The Russian-born Kazakh is hoping for a change, though it is unclear that – if selected- he would land in the Europe or perhaps Asia camp.

The 26-year-old told Essentially Sports: “It seems that (World captain) John McEnroe thinks the world team is America, Canada, Australia and South America.

“Argentine Diego Schwarzman at that time (2022) was No. 10, so it was impossible not to include him.

“I would like to play, I love team events. But for some reason I’m sure that “the world” is all those who speak English.

“I will be happy if McEnroe reads this,” he added, Half of Laver teams are automatically selected by ranking with the other three the captain’s choice.
