In-form Brooksby blows away Opelka

Young American Jenson Brooksby continued his good form in 2021 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Reilly Opelka in Antwerp on Tuesday.

Brooksby took a 4-3 lead in the first set before Opelka saved two break points to hold serve, but Brooksby then served out the first set.

The second was equally tight before Brooksby again broke after four games to finish the match in 72 minutes.

“It’s been a great year. I am happy. I feel like I have been focused, playing well,” Brooksby said.

“I will hopefully finish this year strong. He has definitely got one of the best serves on Tour. I thought we had a good game plan. I have been hitting them well and executed pretty well here, so I am happy with that.”

Brooksby will face Botic van de Zandschulp in the next round.

Another young American Brandon Nakashima eased past Aussie Alex De Minaur 6-4 6-0, Italian Lorenzo Musetti beat Gianluca Mager 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) and will face compatriot Jannik Sinner next.
