Simona Halep’s longtime former coach Darren Cahill has come to the defence of the player after she was suspended by anti doping authorities.
The ex-No. 1 tested positive after a US Open first-round loss for the anemia drug Roxadustat. The 31-year-old has fervently protested, saying there is no way she would ever take any illegal (for tennis players) substance.
Australian Cahill totally agrees.
“First of all, and most importantly, there is NO possibility that Simona, knowingly or deliberately, has taken any prohibited substance,” he posted.
“None Zero. She is an athlete who would get stressed by anything prescribed by a medical professional (which rarely happened), or by any supplement that she used.
“I believe in her. I always have and I can say that now more than ever with this situation.”
