Halep too sharp for Potapova at Gippsland Trophy

World No. 2 Simona Halep won her first match of the season at the Gippsland Trophy on Monday 6-4, 6-4 against Russian Anastasia Potapova.

After beating No.1 Ash Barty in Adelaide on Friday in an exhibition match, Halep looked sharp against the 19-year-old Potapova.

She will meet the winner of Australian Destanee Aiava and German Laura Siegemund, who defeated Romanian Monica Niculescu 7-5 6-4, in the next round.
