Roger Federer will travel to Halle for a ceremony next month to mark the 30th anniversary of the ATP grass event and honour the Swiss player’s 10 titles at the venue.
Officials said on Wednesday the June 21 celebration will salute the more influential player in the history of the tournament,
The event is played at a green-and-purple Wimbledon replica stadium with the Roger Federer Allee leading to the facility in the Westfalen, Germany, village.
“I’m looking forward to returning to one of my absolute favourite tournaments on the ATP Tour,” the 41-year-old said in a statement.
“It’s an honor to come and help the tournament celebrate this important anniversary in Halle.”
Added TD Ralf Weber, whose father Gerry founded the pre-Wimbledon tournament:
“The rise of our tournament to world-class level is closely associated with Roger.
“He has acted as an outstanding ambassador for us over all this time and produced headlines around the globe.”
The guest of honour will be feted on Centre Court; other activities on the day will benefit the 41-year-old’s charitable foundation which provides education to South African children.
