Becker: I worry about Raducanu’s three surgeries

Boris Becker is worried that Emma Raducanu’s tennis may never be the same after the 20-year-old underwent operations on both wrists and ankle in recent weeks.

Becker, a six-time Grand Slam winner, said he fears for the career of the 20-year-old who won the US Open from a qualifying start but never managed to translate that surprise success into steady Tour performances.

“The surgeries that she has had are, in my opinion, career-threatening,” Eurosport commentator Becker said..

Having surgery on your playing wrist, and as a two-handed player, the other wrist – and then on your ankle – is tough to bear for a young woman.”

Raducanu is all but certain to miss Wimbledon but remains optimistic that the surgeries will cure the various physical problems which have held back her career.

Raduanu posted details of her then-upcoming operations earlier this month on social media and also posted a smiling hospital picture after a wrist operation.

No timeline on the return to action of the No. 106 has yet been decided.
