Emma in USO strife as summer wildcards fail to appear

Emma Raducanu’s chances of finding form before the US Open have taken a massive dive as an expected wild card to next week’s Cincinnati Masters failed to materialise.

The 2021 champion who made a fairytale run from a qualifying start to the trophy, is without any Tour matches after failing to receive a wild card entry for next week.

The 21-year-old has had nothing but problems since her New York miracle of three years ago, bogged down by injuries, surgeries and frequent coaching changes.

She began showing progress by reaching the Wimbledon fourth round and lost a quarter-final last week in Washington to eventual champion Paula Badosa.

The Brit’s camp rolled the dice on skipping qualifying for this week’s Toronto Masters, with the player going empty when it came to main draw wild cards.

With Cincinnati apparently out of the frame, there are now two and a half weeks without a match looming before the August 26 start at Flushing Meadows.

Her lone hope would be a place in Cincy qualifying this coming weekend.
