Demon mauls Sandgren in straight sets

Top Aussie Alex de Minaur moved quickly into the second round of the Australian Open with a 7-5 6-1 6-1 rout of American Tennys Sandgren in Melbourne today.

De Minaur is super fit and his speed around the court had Sandgren on the back foot all match.

“I was able to get through the first set nerves and loosen up a bit and play some of my best tennis, so I’m very happy with that,” de Minaur said.

“A big thing with me is to try and stay in the moment, stay focused and try to win every point out there.

“I’m glad I was able to do that and not let my opponent get back in the match.

“I came out and played some great tennis in the second and third sets and saved the legs.”
