Brit Draper first up for Nadal in Melbourne

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been drawn in opposite halves of the men’s singles draw of the 2023 Australian Open, with Nadal projected to meet Russian Daniil Medvedev in the last eight and Djokovic on track to face another Russian, Andrey Rublev.

No. 2 seed Casper Ruud will meet American Taylor Fritz if projections go to plan and No.3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas to face Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

But first Nadal must dispose of Brit Jack Draper in round one as Djokoovic faces Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena.

Tsitsipas will meet Frenchman Quentin Hayle and Ruud faces Czech Tomas Machac.

Britain’s Andy Murray has a tough opening round tie against Italian Matteo Berrettini and local favourite Nock Kyrgios faces Russian Roman Safiullin.
