Barty locks up Keys in straight sets

Ash Barty became the first Australian woman to reach the Australian Open women’s singles final in 42 years on Thursday night, beating American Madison Keys 6-1 6-3.

Wimbledon champion Barty, 25, follows bin the footsteps of Wendy Turnbull, the last Aussie to reach a home final.

The Australian – man or woman – Christine O’Neil – won the title in 1978.

Top seed Barty will face Iga Swiatek or Danielle Collins in Saturday’s final.
