World No. 1 Ash Barty improved her 2021 record to 27 match wins with a 6-3,6-3 win over Veronika Kudermetova to reach the quarter final of the BNL Italian Open in Rome.
Australian Barty took one-hour and 21-minute over the World No..28, to reach the final eight in Rome for the first time in her career.
Barty said after the match “I think once I walked out there, it was a bit of a ‘wow’ factor, contesting a match on the centre court in Rome for the first time. Pretty impressive centre court, took some time to get used to that.”
“Without a doubt, happy with how we were able to tactically move about that match today and kind of stick to what we hoped would work and be able to execute,” she added.
She now faces an intriguing match with Coco Gauff.
