Alcaraz works to duck the pressure of the grass

Carlos Alcaraz will face his first major test on grass as the Spaniard opens play at Wimbledon as top seed with No. 2 Novak Djokovic breathing down his  neck.

The top-ranked Spaniard will start his quest against French veteran Jeremy Chardy who has never escaped the fourth round here.

But with expectations rising on Alcaraz after reaching the grass court final at Queen’s Club, the pressure is also building for the 20-year-old.

“I would say the pressure that they put on everyone,” Alcaraz said on Sunday.

“I have to deal with that.

” I don’t feel too much pressure about being No. 1.

“I know what I have to do – play my best, try to win.

“I don’t think about being No. 1 too much. I’m trying to put out all
that pressure.”

The 2022 US Open winner said that all he can do is to play in his own style.

“I always try to play aggressive all the time. That’s the most important thing

here on grass: to be aggressive, to try to go to the net.

“I’m trying to hit big shots, but I always try that on every surface. I think it works  really well on grass.”

Alcaraz said that the leg pain which he experienced at Queen’s is under control as the Grand Slam approaches.

“I’m feeling great, I worked this week to try not to feel the pain that I felt in the final of Queen’s.

“I’m feeling ready to start Wimbledon.”
