Alcaraz-Sinner rivally not yet prime time

While admitting that his rivallry with Jannik Sinner is gaining in stature, Carlos Alcaraz is not sure that it is ready for prime time.

The Spaniard earned the latest win in the series between the ATP young guns, defeating the Italian in Sunday’s Rome final in straight sets.

The title was the second for Alcaraz out of the three pre-French Open events he played this spring, coming a month after winning the Monte Carlo trophy.

“I’m not gonna put myself or the great rivalry that I have with Jannik at (the same) level (of) those legends (Borg-McEnroe, Sampras-Agassi, Nadal-Federer),” Alcaraz said on Friday during the run-up to Sunday’s French Open start.

“Right now I think the people are excited every time that I’m facing Jannik. Our matches I think is really high quality of tennis. Let’s see in the future how it’s gonna be. 

“Right now for sure I’m not going to put ourselves into that table of (all-time great) rivalries, but I think people are excited about watching our matches.”
