Spain’s Davis Cup chances have taken a huge hit after teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz was ruled out of the event with Covid-19 yesterday.
Holders Spain take on Ecuador in Madrid today.
“I wanted to communicate that today I have tested positive for COVID-19 which will prevent me from playing the Davis Cup,” Alcaraz, 18, wrote on social media.
“At the moment I am very well, with very mild symptoms and we will see how it progresses.”
Spain were already without Rafa Nadal due to a foot injury, and Roberto Bautista Agut, who withdrew with an abdominal injury.
Alcaraz has been replaced by world No. 60 Pedro Martinez Porte.
