30 aces not enough to save Kyrgios in Halle

Hubert Hurkacz overcame 30 aces from Nick Kyrgios while producing 27 of his own to reach the Halle ATP final on Saturday 4-6, 7-6 (7/2), 7-6 (7/4) over the crowd-pleasing Australian.

Kyrgios, ready for an unprecedented – for him – third tournament week in a row from Monday in Mallorca,  was unable to get a grip on his two-hour struggle with Hurkacz.

The world No. 12 who knocked Roger Federer out of the Wimbledon quarter-finals last summer, will play for his first career grass title on Sunday against Daniil Medvedev.

The world No. 1 beat German Oscar Otte 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 to advance.

“Reaching the final is not everything, I want to show my best tennis and win the title,” Medvedev said.

“I love playing on grass, so I’m happy to show to myself that I’m capable of being in the final of one of the greatest tournaments.

“Of course I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

Medvedev has not won a title since the US Open last September

Kyrgios remains psyched for the Wimbledon run-up after losing his semi-final.

“He’s a hell of a player,” the Australian said. “His serve is incredible. I honestly didn’t feel like I was getting any sort of read on it.

“It is what it is, I”m happy with my form this week”
