Zverev sends out warning after Monfils demolition

Alexander Zverev’s 6-1, 6-3 demolition of Frenchman Gael Monfils sent an ominous warning to the rest of the field at the BNP Paribas Open on Wednesday night.

The German allowed Monfils just four games in their fourth-round clash as he won the first set in just 25 minutes before going on to win the match, claiming 19 of 25 points at the net to win in just over an hour.

Zverev won 76 per cent of first-serve points as he mauled the Frenchman into defeat.

“I did feel well on the court today. Obviously Gael is someone I haven’t beaten before so I know that I had to play my best tennis,” Zverev said.

“I definitely was not far away even though I missed a few volleys ,but apart from that I felt pretty good.”

He will face No. 31 seed Taylor Fritz next.

I’m looking forward to it. I’m feeling well, I’m playing pretty OK tennis and hopefully it can continue this week,” Zverev added.
