Toni Nadal has laid a trail of breadcrumbs to Spanish radio, with suggestion that his nephew might just be ready to return to competition at the Australian Open.

The former coach of Rafael Nadal told Onda Cero of his subdued optimism after the player’s long injury absence from the ATP stretching back to the Open 10 months ago.

“My nephew intends to be cautious, which is the right approach. But I believe that for the Australian Open, he should be in good condition to compete, all going well, because I have seen him train,”

The 37-year-old Nadal has suffered with hip and abdominal muscle problems all during his time off court in 2023.
