Stefanos Tsitsipas’ participation in next weeks Laver Cup in Chicago  has been thrown into doubt after he pulled out of this weekend’s Greece v Lithuania Davis Cup tie with a recurrence of a left foot injury.

Tsitsipas was due to return to action this weekend to lead his country  in the World Group II match in Heraklion.

He did not travel to Crete.

The Greek struggled with a foot injury at the US Open where he was heavily criticised for taking several timeouts at critical points in the game.

He returned with his foot heavily bandaged each time which suggested that something was wrong, though his opponents felt that he was abusing the current ”bathroom break regulations” which are about to be revised.
