‘Sore loser’ Medvedev blasted by media

Daniil Medvedev has been blasted as a sore loser after he criticised the fans during his five set defeat to Rafa Nadal in Melbourne on Sunday night.

“He’s a bloody sook, Neil, and a sore loser,” Aussie sports journalist Tony Jones said on Melbourne today.

“I don’t have an ounce of sympathy for him, whatsoever.

“He brings it upon himself.

“You can’t stand on court and tell the crowd they have a low IQ and then carry on like a pork chop throughout the tournament.”

Jones said he was at the match and wanted Medvedev to win as he didn’t like some of Nadal’s tactics.

But he didn’t back off when giving the Russian a serve.

“The guy’s come here, I don’t know what he’s picked up in prize money, it will be in the millions.

“He brings it on himself. You can’t stand on court and tell fans they have a low IQ and then expect crowds to support you.

“He had support but the majority of people there last night wanted Rafa to win because of the history it would create.

Presenter Neil Mitchell added fans didn’t like Medvedev because of “the way he treated umpires as well”.

Medvedev had been fined US$12,000 after his outburst at the chair umpire during his semi-final win over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open on Friday.
