Sinner secures second straight Miami QF

Jannik Sinner continued his bid for the Miami Masters title on Tuesday, dispatching Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 6-3 to reach a second consecutive quarter-final at the event.

The world No. 3 who finished runner-up here a year ago to Daniil Medvedev improved his season record to 19-1 with victory in one and three-quarter hours.

The Italian got out of trouble in the opening set and saved a break point to avoid trailing a double break before rallying to reclaim the set. He broke early in the second set and advanced into the last eight on his third match point after dropping just two points on serve in the set.

Australian Open winner Sinner will play a quarter final here for the fourth straight edition and next takes on Czech Tomas Machac, conqueror of Andy Murray, who defeated Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3.
