Sinner on a spree with runaway opening win

Jannik Sinner ran off nine consecutive games as she showed the door to 

Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-1 in a roaring start on Friday at the Indian Wells Masters.

The world No. 2 Italian made a statement recovery after losing early in Doha to Jakob Mensik.

“We’ve never played each other, so I had to understand a little bit how his game was,” the winner said. “He’s a very solid player, great mover, so I tried to move him around.

“I felt like I was serving well in important moments; that was something very positive.”

Sinner has never been past the semi-finals here (2023, 2024) but is hoping to put recent extra practice at the Californian venue to good use after he and his team abandoned Monaco’s poor recent weather for the sunshine.

“Mentally I’m in a good place. “I’m calm, I’m relaxed. But I’m also very happy to compete. 

“We did a lot of work. Many, many hours on court,” Sinner said. ‘Many hours in the gym. I’m trying to get a little bit stronger; we did double sessions, not many days off at all.”

Sinner claimed nine games on the trot from 10 in the opening set against his out-matched opponent as he won his eighth from 10 this season.
