Rublev seeing red over another late-night Paris finish

Andrey Rublev let rip over poor Paris Masters scheduling as the fifth seed completed another in this week’s series of post-midnight match finishes to move into the Saturday semi-finals.

Rublev – a member of the ATP Player Council, was not best pleased with the timing of the quarter-final where he scored a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback over Alex de Minaur.

That result combined with a win by Novak Djokovic over defending champion Holger Rune, completed the lineup for the eight-man ATP Finals due to start next Sunday in Turin.

The last two into the field were German Alexander Zverev and Rune.

Rublev let rip over his own finish at 1 a.m,, adding to a wave of criticism over Paris finishes which invariably stretch into the wee hours.

Due to the poor timing, Rublev automatically became an underdog in his Saturday afternoon match with Novak Djokovic.

“To get to sleep after a match like this] First of all I have dinner, treatment, arrive to the hotel, take a shower…,” he tweted.

“I will go to sleep at 4, 5? Crazy. Amazing schedule, thank you! I am in the council of ATP and… ATP, we are together!” 😄👍”
