Andrey Rublev kept his major Dubai habit alive on Wednesday, with the second seed booking a quarter-final at the ATP 500 here for the fifth consecutive year.

The 2022 tournament winner at the Aviation Club sent out French qualifier Arthur Cazaux 6-4, 6-4, in 77 minutes, withstanding 16 aces from the 86th-ranked challenger who reached the Australian Open fourth round last month.

Cazaux saved two Rublev Match points trailing a set and 3-5 before Rublev closed out victory on his third opportunity two games later.

“He was serving really well, there was not much I could do,” the winner said.

“I got lucky and was able to break him straightaway. That gave me the confidence to play more freely.

“It’s always good to win in straight sets since you have to be ready to play the next day. That’s important for recovery.”
