Danielle Collins turned in a title-winning Miami Masters performance on Saturday which put her looming tennis retirement on the back burner.

The American who has said she will wrap up her career later this season, stunned Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-3 to lift the trophy in a command performance in Florida.to deny her Kazakh opponent a second straight title here.

Collins, ranked 53rd and the Australian Open finalist from two years ago, won in two hours, saving nine of 10 break points against her serve.

Rybakina came to Miami after withdrawing prior to the start of her Indian Wells title defence with gastrointestinal issues and never reached her top level here.

Collins claimed her third WTA honour, her first at the Masters level and her first since 2021.

She is the first home player to win in Miami since Sloane Stephens in 2018 and becomes the lowest-ranked woman to win the trophy.
