Raducanu ‘buzzing’ in New York

Young Brit Emma Raducanu continued her remarkable 2021 season with a straight sets victory over Stefanie Vogele in New York.

The teenager, who made it to the last 16 at Wimbledon in July, was impressive beating her opponent who is 13 years her senior 6-2 6-3.

Raducanu hit 24 winners during the 78 minutes it took to finish the match, out on Court 17.

“I feel like I am learning so much, being around these players and hitting with them, I feel like I am absorbing it all, so I don’t feel any pressure. It is all a free swing and bonus for me because I don’t have anything to lose,” Raducanu said.

“Still everything is so new to me and I just love New York, the buzz and everything. Walking around the city, it is such an amazing experience. I am just enjoying it and I want to stay here as long as possible so I will keep fighting.”

Next up is a rematch with China’s Zhang Shuai, who beat her 6-3 6-2 at the Silicon Valley Classic at the beginning of August.

There was no such luck for another Brit, Katie Boulter, who lost 6-3 6-2 to Russia’s Ludmilla Samsonova.
