Quimper Challenger fails to pull off Murray coup

The US$88,250 ATP Quimper Challenger event in Brittany this week just failed to pull off an enormous coup when Andy Murray and his management rejected the offer to appear at the last minute.

The 33 year old Scot had been unable to take an official Tennis Australia flight to Melbourne for The Open because he tested positive for Coronavirus at his Surrey UK home two days before departure.

He has now completed quarantine and has tested negative.

He is said to have set the bar too high in his demands to appear in the Finistere event, asking to be able to train on private land outside the official complex to maintain social distancing, and to stay in a luxury private house with his team.

At the last minute the event organisers received a message from Murray’s 77 Sports Management team saying “We have decided it is better for Andy to stay at home an extra week before going to Europe to make sure he is not worried about the virus”

“So sorry, he won’t be coming to Quimper, but he really appreciated your approach”
