The worst nightmare came true for Andy Murray as the five-time champion was forced to withdraw form the pre-Wimbledon event at Queen’s Club on Monday due to an abdominal injury suffered in the weekend Stuttgart final.

The 35-year-old who lost the German title match in three sets to Matteo Berrettini, had a scan in London, with doctors advising him to rst his muscle concern.

“After having a scan this afternoon, an abdominal injury means I won’t be fit to compete at Queen’s this year,” Murray said in a statement.

“The tournament means a lot to me, and it’s disappointing not to compete, especially after playing some good matches on the grass already.”

There was no word as to whether he would be fit by the Wimbledon start on June 27 – a fortnight away.

Murray was replaced in the London field by Italian lucky loser Lorenzo Sonego.
