Wimbledon’s air-tight security measures proved useless on Wednesday as a pair of Just Stop Oil protestors managed to slip into the grounds and disrupt play on an outside court.
The event has been on red alert lookout for any climate change protests which are now a part of life in the capital.
But despite invasive airport-style searches of spectators and irritating slowdowns at the gates for ticket holders, the harsh measures proved to be ineffective.
Wimbledon PR put out a bland, vague statement about an interruption before local media fleshed out the details.
Two protestors sprinkled the movement’s trademark orange confetti on the green grass of Court 18 and also threw down a jigsaw puzzle before being arrested and hauled off by police.
One sat court before being removed from the match won by Grigor Dimitrov over Sho Shimabukuro.
Activists have been using the colour orange in their various campaigns to heighten climate awareness before they say it will be too late to save the Earth.
The group last week disrupted the first day of the second Ashes Test against Australia with orange powder at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
They also showed up at the World Snooker Championships, with one dumping orange powder onto the felt gaming tables.
The group are demanding that the UK government halts all new licences and consents for oil, gas and coal.
